Our Values
Youth Direction Services NYC believes that to accomplish our core mission of supporting the youth and families in Brooklyn and Queens we have to acknowledge that our clients come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
Many of the people we work with have experienced multiple and repeated traumas from racism, sexism, xenophobia, and homophobia. As a result of these and other forms of discrimination, those we support often have, , had inadequate access to resources struggled with food insecurity, housing and faced mental health issues.
This means that the institutional discrimination faced by Black, Brown, AAPI, and LGBTQ+ individuals will or has already made their earlier years more difficult. These challenges are compounded with age as our clients face additional stresses including depression, anxiety, behavioral issues.
For these reasons, Youth Direction Services NYC is committed to addressing the inequalities embedded in our society. We do this by ensuring that our services are delivered in an equitable manner to mitigate the impact of racism and we follow more inclusive hiring and employment practices.
We also strive to have a Board of Directors and staff that reflects our community.
